Do You Remember the Words?

Apparently, no one does remember. My curiosity got the better of me and I finally looked it up. "Then fix it dear Henry, dear Henry, then fix it, dear Henry, fix it." It goes on and on forever after that!

I DO! With what shall I fix it, Dear Eliza, dear Eliza, with what shall I fix it dear Eliza, with what? With some straw...the straw is too dry...then wet it...with what...some water...with what shall I fetch it...the bucket...there's a hole in the bucket! YAY. :)

I can't stump you, Kathi! I'll have to think of another one

Susan, you just didn't have a "singing" childhood! Haha! Kudos to you for looking it up!

I found myself humming it the other day and couldn't resist it!

Actually I missed a couple of verses (the straw is too long...then cut it...with what...a knife...the knife is too dull...so sharpen it...with what...a stone...the stone is too dry...then wet it...) I think that should do it! I sing all of our childhood songs with the grandkids. Remember "Oh an Austrian went yodeling..."?

My singing childhood occurred in Seymour, Texas. I grew up with songs like "Cornbread and Buttermilk" and "Way down yonder on the Indian nation" and "Big John." We wuz country folk. :)

I remember "Big John" and "Way down yonder on the Indian Nation" but no "Cornbread......." I don't think I knew the words but remember the music.

And yes, "The Austian." Most of these are girl scout songs.

"Keep a eatin' that cornbread and buttermilk, a country boy's delight
I eat it ev'ry mornin', I eat it noon & night
Some people like fried chicken, while others like their ham
But cornbread and buttermilk made me what I am"

We would hear it EVERY morning on the radio while we were eating breakfast. It was apparently recorded by Little Jimmy Dickens.

Love it! I can just hear you singing it!

Did you ever hear a song called "Just Plant a watermelon on my grave and let the juice run through?"

No, I believe I missed the watermelon on the grave song. :)
