Visitors

Being an Air Force family, we didn't get too many out-of-state visitors. Our very favorite ones were Grandmom & Grandpop. They always managed to visit us wherever we were stationed. They came to Lake Charles, Louisiana accompanied by Uncle Bill; to Robins, Georgia, to Rhein Main, Germany and of course, McGuire in N.J. Do you remember any of this? (I recall Grandpop getting annoyed because of the 25 mph on the base at Robins)

Remember Berchtesgaden and riding the mining car in the salt mines, the slides with Grandmom laughing so hard she wet her pants? We had a great road trip visiting the old family homestead in Marienwhier. Another of our interesting visitors were Uncle Ben & Aunt Liz who were only going to stay a couple of days and ended up staying a week. And what was that Easter poem that Aunt Liz taught you?

There was nothing better than a visit from Grandmom and Grandpop! I do remember their many visits- especially in Germany and all of the traveling we did while they were there. After a long day, we'd sit on the bed with Grandpop- I remember single beds- and talk and laugh and just have a wonderful time. I don't remember an Easter poem, but I do remember Aunt Liz and Uncle Ben visiting. I also remember the salt mines and Grandmom's pants' episode-didn't Billy (he was our Billy then or "Winky" according to Jane :)) run into her on the big slide? And do you remember that I was stung by a wasp which was hiding in the shirt of the black outfit I was given to wear in the salt mines? You found a doctor in some building- we had to go upstairs, and the doc. put something on the sting...

Wow! What a great memory! For some reason, I don't remember you getting stung by the wasp. That is what happened to Grandmom - Billy bumping her. I do recall that Grandmom put her black outfit behind the bench because it was wet. LOL! Regarding the poem, I think you or Jane had to make one up for class. Let's see if your sister remembers it. The single beds were in Holland. The boys (men) slept in one room and the girls slept in another.

I loved Gmom and Gpop's visits, too. Definitely have fond memories of the travels with them in Germany, going to Marienweiher and the salt mines (and the bladder control problem!:0) and Kathi being stung by a wasp. Don't remember the Easter poem. :)

The beginning of Aunt Liz's poem: Happy Birthday Easter Rabbit
Shitting is your favorite habit..... . I remember you both laughing and laughing and it stayed with me all of these years. I'm sure language had a part in it too as you couldn't really use that "bad" word.

I really have no recollection of that poem! Maybe because it had a "bad word" in it, being the "good girl" that I was, I blocked it out! Ha. It sounds like something Aunt Liz would share, though! Saw the movie Role Models last night, and it was hilarious, but I couldn't help thinking, "What mother would allow her son to play the character that this little boy played?!" If you haven't seen it, I won't ruin it. It's probably more of a "guy" movie- you know the Judd Apatow thing... :) But I admit I laughed- a lot.

That poem sounds very familiar now that you mention it. I couldn't have brought it up from my memory bank, though. Sounds just like Aunt Liz! Have seen advertisements for the movie, Kath, and it sounds like something I would appreciate. LOL We will have to wait till we are down south or till it's on Netflix to see it, though.

Mom I'll have to come over and scan some of the old photos so you can post them with the stories, like the salt mine, I know we have pics of that
